The must-see locations in Paris

Those who are discovering the French capital for the first time should not miss out on visiting the Eiffel Tower, 'Notre dame' Cathedral, The 'Louvre' museum, the 'Orsay' museum, the opera, the Champs Elysées, the 'Sacré Cœur' basilica, 'Pigalle', the 'Vosges' square, the Montaigne avenue with its high-fashion boutique shops, the cemetary of Père Lachaise where several famous people are buried… and many other places which the guidebooks never fail to mention.

In the area around Paris, you can dive into French history at the 'château de Versailles', the Fontainebleau or the Chantilly (we recommend a visit to the Horse museum).

Take your pick from the numerous theatrical shows played every day. Tickets may be bought directly from the theatre or from the 'kiosque théâtre' in the 'Madeleine' square (the closest outlet), Montparnasse or in the 'Ternes' square (half price for tickets sold on the day).

For families, head for Disneyland Paris, the 'Parc Asterix', or 'la cité des Sciences'. Getting there is easy from the apartment (see the Map page for directions).

The secrets of Paris

In Paris, you really should take your time - stroll through the covered passageways, explore the green spaces of the 'Butte-aux-Cailles' (behind the 'Place d’Italie') or the 'Montsouris' park….and make your own discoveries!

Likewise, you can walk over the remaining traces of old-Paris, which was called 'Lutèce'.  Start by following 'Saint-Jacques' street, a street which has maintained the exact route of the old gallo-roman road, then pass by the ancient baths (where you will find the museum of the middle ages) and discover the Arenas of Lutèce (Monge Street). Finish this tour of first-century Paris at the impressive catacombs near to Denfert-Rochereau.

Admire the 'art nouveau' work of the iconic architect, Hector Guimard. Leave from the 'Abbesses' metro station and take the opportunity to appreciate the glasswork at the station exit.  Don't forget to see the 'Castel Béranger' (14 Fontaine Street) and the buildings of Agar Street (metro station 'Michel-Ange-Auteuil')!

And why not a quick visit to the Edith Piaf museum or to the Smoker's museum in the 11th arrondissement?
